Overview of Stamp 1G

Stamp 1G indicates you have finished your studies in Ireland and have permission to look for employment here under the Third Level Graduate Programme, subject to conditions.

Graduate students on Stamp 1G can work full-time in Ireland without a work permit. To stay in state beyond the period of expiry of Stamp 1G, graduate students needs a valid immigration permission or an employment permit.

Why do I need the Stamp 1G extension?

It is extremely important that the foreign national must have a valid immigration permission at all times during their stay in Ireland. If you are a non-EEA national graduate student and your stamp 1G is about to expire, you need an extension-

• To have a legal status in the state.
• To apply for an employment permit from Ireland in the future if you find a suitable job. If you do not have a valid, in-date immigration permission, you cannot apply for employment permission from Ireland, and your employment permit application will very likely be rejected.
• Applying for a Stamp 1G extension 4-5 months’ advance of the expiry of your current Stamp 1G permission will help you secure an extension.
• If your Stamp 1G have already expired, you won’t be eligible for Stamp 1G extension.

What are the eligibility criteria for Stamp 1G extension?

You need to have a valid Stamp 1G permission to apply for Stamp 1G extension.

You have yet to find a job offer/job from which you can get an employment permit, and your Stamp 1G permission is about to expire.

You currently have a job and are in the process of applying for an employment permit and need your Stamp 1G extended in the meantime.

You faced circumstances beyond your control and were unable to look for job opportunities during the period you had graduate permission.

How long does it take to get the Stamp 1G extension?

If you are the holder of Stamp 1G permission, which is about to expire in the coming months, and are yet unsure about securing employment for which an employment permit will be issued, then we recommend applying for Stamp 1G extension.

We recommend applying for the Stamp 1G extension 4-5 months in advance of the expiry of your current Stamp 1G permission.
